September 2007
Classical Destinations TV Series goes to air on the PBS network across America commencing this September. The 13 part series will air over the pre Christmas months right through to Christmas.
The series again kicks off in the city of Salzburg, Austria, birthplace of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. After Mozart's 250th Birthday celebration last year, it is fitting that the series begins here exploring his early life and influences. Click on our link for an outline of all episodes.
Episode 1 - Salzburg: Birthplace of Amadeus. The hills around Salzburg were alive long before Julie Andrews started running up them! In the first episode of Classical Destinations, Simon Callow, Niki Vasilakis and Matt Wills introduce viewers to the birthplace of classical music's ultimate superstar, and tell of the infant Amadeus' most prodigious exploits. This city is the city of the Salzburg Festival, famous puppet shows, and the belated arrival of the musical with which Hollywood took Salzburg to the world.
Series II in Production: We are delighted to confirm that Series II of Classical Destinations has been commissioned by SBS and is currently in production. Simon Callow is our host, presenter and narrator.
Series II will journey to new destinations including England, France, Spain, Poland, Hungary, Belgrade and new cities in prior destinations such as Moscow, Rome, Naples, Munich, Bayreuth and Halle.
The new series will be coming to SBS in mid 2008 and globally later in 2008.
